Delivery Trends to Look Out for Over the Next Ten Years

Whether you manage a fleet or you’re an independent courier driver, you’ll know the importance of staying up-to-date with the latest developments in the logistics industry. This is essential to maintaining excellent levels in driving performance, safety and environmental standards.

Of course, these are predictions. They do, however, reflect a number of key patterns and developments that DHL expect to be highly significant over the next ten years or so. Planning ahead with these in mind will prove extremely useful for everyone from a senior manager to a part-time courier driver.

The DHL Research Team has put together a list of around 30 trends that they believe to be significant in terms of what happens in next ten years. They analysed data produced from a number of different sources including logistics experts, research institutes and around 10,000 people working within the sector. They have divided these into three key areas, including people, sustainability and technology, with these insights taking into account current and future trends.

Trends in People

Based on DHL’s research, fears of robots taking over everyone’s courier job opportunities can be put to one side – at least for now. Human drivers are integral to the logistics sector and, as such, DHL don’t expect this to change any time soon. It is likely to be true that developments in automation and robotics will redefine many of the roles and practices within the industry, though it is expected that this will assist drivers rather than replace them.

Trends in Technology

Unsurprisingly, the fast-paced developments in transport technology are an integral part to DHL’s research. The pace of change is already rapid, with new developments appearing constantly in different areas. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is undoubtedly set to play a role over the next decade, whilst the next generation of wireless networks could have an impact on the relationship between cost and performance.

Trends in Sustainability

With the environmental situation changing at a rapid pace, anyone working in the transport sector will need to be prepared to be even more vigilant when it comes to sustainability practices. This is an international issue, and it is expected that there will be an even stronger focus on tackling emissions during the next decade. Whether it’s a move towards electric vehicles or discovering other practical and more environmentally friendly ways of doing deliveries, things are most definitely set to change in this aspect.

The next ten years promise to be an extremely interesting time in terms of developments and trends in logistics, with DHL identifying several key areas for the ambitious courier driver to be aware of. Look out for rapid developments in technology including AI and automated processes, and keep in mind that the importance of maintaining high environmental and sustainability standards is likely to grow as the global picture begins to change at an even faster rate.

Meet Your Needs With Medicare Advantage Plans

Now is the time to enroll in a no monthly premium Medical Advantage Plan (MAP) to upgrade your Medical benefits.

While some MAPs have a monthly premium, there are enough of them to choose from whereby you don't need to pay a monthly premium.

Medicare Advantage Plan, Part C, came into existence in 2003 and has been growing ever since. Now nearly 27 million Medicare beneficiaries get their Parts A and B benefits delivered through MAPs which are offered by private insurers and typically include Part D prescription drug coverage.

In addition to delivering your Part A and Part B benefits, many MAPD Plans offers benefits not available through Original Medicare which may include dental, hearing, fitness programs, telemedicine, money for healthy food, personal household help, over-the-counter drugs, transportation to doctor visits, and other extras. Plans can also tailor their benefit packages to certain chronically-ill conditions such as diabetes or kidney disease.

MAPD Plans must cover all the services that Original Medicare covers except hospice care. Original Medicare covers hospice care even when you're in a Medicare Advantage Plan. In all types of Medicare Advantage Plans you're always covered for emergency and urgent care. Medicare Advantage Plans must offer emergency coverage of the plan's service areas (but not outside of the U.S.)

In most Medicare Advantage HMO (Health Maintenance Organization) Plans, you can only go to doctors, other health care providers, or hospitals in the plan's network, except in an urgent or emergency situation. In an HMO-POS(Point of Service) Plan, you may be able to get some services out-of-network for a higher copayment or coinsurance.

You just need to make sure that your favorite providers and hospitals are in the network and that your medications are on the plan's formulary.

The Medicare Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) allows you to leave a plan, sign up for a plan, or switch plans. The AEP lasts from October 15th to December 7th each year. However, if you are just turning 65, the AEP is unimportant. Your Initial Enrollment Period (IEP) starts 3 months before the month you turn 65 and ends 3 months after the month you turn 65. Finally, if you enrolled in a MAPD Plan between Oct. 15th and Dec 7th, you can switch to another Advantage Plan or drop it in favor of Original Medicare and pick up a standalone Part D prescription plan between Jan.1st and March 31st.

Remember, if you enroll in a MAPD Plan, you must continue paying your Part B premiums. Moreover, you can't have a Medicare Supplement Plan and a Medicare Advantage Plan at the same time. And, when you enroll in a MAPD Plan, your coverage will begin on January 1, 2022.
